On the February 26, 2024 episode of Capitol Journal, a public affairs program produced by Alabama Public Television, Alabama House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels levied a terrifying threat of political violence towards Donald Trump and other Republicans. The following are the threatening words of this tyrant:
“The mere fact that former President Trump mentioned in his remarks about protecting IVF could send a signal to Republicans in the state of Alabama that they must address this issue as quickly as possible… I think the former President understands the political implications in November as well because if this issue is not resolved it will be a bloodbath in November,” Daniels said.
Unfortunately, we were not able to bring this news to the public sooner, because we only recently discovered that such language is a threat of political violence, as pointed out by the Biden campaign. But recent events have revealed that we should all be outraged by such vitriolic language. You see, the media and the White House drew this to our attention with their response to the relatively benign statement from former President Donald Trump about the automotive industry:
“Let me tell you something, to China, if you’re listening, President Xi … those big, monster car manufacturing plants that you’re building in Mexico right now, and you think you’re going to get that, you’re going to not hire Americans and you’re going to sell the cars to us? We’re going to put a 100% tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those guys if I get elected. Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s gonna be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country. That’ll be the least of it. But they’re not going to sell those cars, they’re building massive factories.”
Trump defenders claim the bloodbath is in reference to economic consequences that the automotive industry will suffer if he is not elected. Why would they think he is talking about the automotive industry when he mentions the bloodbath? Perhaps it was because he was discussing the automotive industry immediately before and immediately after the statement? We did not realize that we made the same mistake in interpreting the “bloodbath” statement until we saw the following reports…
From NBC News:
From Rolling Stone:
From New York Times:
From the geniuses at Salon:
And from PBS (of which the aforementioned Alabama Public Television is an affiliate):
In light of the revelations that we were able to learn only thanks to this most excellent media coverage of what we mistakenly took as a benign comment about the auto industry, we are now prepared to unload the full might and fury of our Substack platform to inform the world of Mr. Daniels’ blatant threats toward President Trump and every single Republican in the state of Alabama.
Let’s not waste time pretending Mr. Daniels comment about sending “a signal to Republicans” is ambiguous. It is clear that he intends to physically harm Republicans, is it not? Thank goodness for the good reporting by the corporate media, the Republicans now know that using the term “bloodbath” warrants a complete and ridiculous meltdown. Fortunately, those poor Alabama Republicans have several months until November, so maybe they will have time to prepare for the coming bloodbath.
Mr. Daniels failed to comment after we failed to reach out to him about something so stupid. Meanwhile, the buffoons that are the corporate media continue their Trump double standard as they spill gallons of ink to misrepresent this story.
Donald Trump is not much of a “Meet Me in the Middle” kind of guy. At least not in terms of rhetoric - although most Democrats would probably be surprised at how moderate his policies are, if they chose to pay attention rather than listen to the lying media. We are not here to defend him in any sort of way. We just want this example of media contortionism to be on display as they twist themselves in knots to demonize Trump. He says enough to do the job without the media having to manufacture headlines.
In case it is not clear, we do not actually believe Mr. Daniels means to harm anyone. Surely, he is a good, well-intentioned servant of the public. We could not resist using this as an example of how Trump can say something innocuous and get a completely different irrational response from the media as compared to when a Democrat uses the same language. There will be no bloodbath in Alabama (especially since the IVF “issue” that Mr. Daniels was addressing turned out to be a shining example of American checks and balances).
We like to write about things that the media does not cover suitably. We like to write about things that the media misrepresents. We like to shine a spotlight on things the media omits to distort their audience’s understanding of issues. This is a silly example that hopefully everyone has woken up enough to see through.
Enough fun for today. Please go find someone who inspires unity, start listening to them, and leave the corporate media behind.
